Frequently Asked Questions
Answers
Why can't I start the
oscilloscope on my computer?
The software needs a fully functioning
Macromedia Shockwave
plug-in
version 8.5 or higher in your webbrowser. The plug-in auto-installs should
you not have it yet the moment you try to start the simulation. According to
Macromedia, 97.8% of all internet users use the shockwave plug-in.
In some PC pools at universities and schools the plug-in has not been
installed, in order to prevent unauthorized gaming and mp3 downloads. In
those locations it cannot be installed automatically, because the
administrators of those sites have not granted installation rights to their
users. Should you get an error message when you try to start the simulation,
please ask your netmaster or administrator about it. It is most likely that
you do not have the access rights needed to install the necessary plug-in.
Why does the button and
wheel motion follow the mouse pointer motion sluggishly?
Motion of image elements follows the mouse pointer movement with a
noticeable latency time on some computers. The reason for this delay is the
execution speed of the program code, which is too slow in such cases.
Therefor the impression may arise, a switch could not be moved or pushed.
Solutions: Hold down the mouse button longer, give the software more
time to react. Or use a more powerful computer.
Why can't I see a curve
on the oscilloscope screen?
There are several possible reasons for this behavior:
- The X-Y mode is turned on and
neither at the vertical nor at the horizontal signal input a cable is
attached. In that case the screen only displays a single dot close to the
center of the raster.
- The Y-Pos. wheel is turned so far
that the curve is drawn outside the visible area of the screen.
- The component tester
is on.
- The oscilloscope is off.
- You have not attached signal cables.
- You have attached a cable to channel 2, but the
channel selector is set to channel
1.
Solutions: Turn on the system (Power
button), attach a signal cable to channel 1, set the channel seletor to
"off", set the X-Y button to "off", and set the Component Tester to "off".
At long Time/Div. settings
on some computers I do not see a simulated beam movement, but a screen
partly covered by a green rectangle. Why?
Due to calculation speed limitations of the scripting language Lingo the
screen update function does not work error-free on computers that have been
powered-up for more than 25 days in a row before you start the simulation.
The motion of a screen mask needs a time reference value in ms. More than
2.1 billion ms cannot be counted by Lingo. After 25 days, this value is
exceeded.
Solution: Shutdown your computer an re-start it. Afterwards, start
the simulation.
What
are the electrical values of the signals of the cables?
It is your job to figure this out. The values of frequency,
amplitude and phase (of most signals) can be determined using the simulation
only or the corresponding help texts. |
